Love: From Broken Hearts to Celebrating Simplicity
This past week has been an introspective one for me, as I have watched someone very dear to me struggle with the emotions that come with the end of a relationship. The many stages of suffering that accompany this roller coaster ride are tricky. Because I have been with Steve for so long, I had to really focus and reminisce to earlier times in my life when I had felt the same pain, to be able to relate and offer advice and support.
A broken heart is tricky to mend and while it may be easy for those with a clear perspective to see a solution, many times, words of advice and pleas to conjure up strength to the one going through the heartache just don't carry that much significance until the heart in question is ready to heal and move on.
While reflecting a bit today, I remembered a quote that I have always loved. It seems to often apply in many "life" situations and seemed remarkably appropriate in this regard as well:
"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." - Helen Keller
I understand that walking through that door and feeling ready to tackle what lies ahead can be a slow and steady process. When one is ready to knock and enter upon that new journey, one can only imagine what beauty and happiness is waiting to be found. I hope that my "dear one" knows that my door, my heart, and my ears are always open to lend support when that time comes.
To end on a positive note, I wanted to share this MOST BEAUTIFUL video by kidswithcrayons. It knocked my socks off, really. The simplicity, whimsy, music, love, thoughtfulness...ahhhh, it's just extraordinary and should remind us all how simple and uncomplicated love should really be.
