The BEST Mother's Day Gift You Can Give Your Mom
I was going to do a blog today with a list of cute little Mother's Day goodies; complete with links, information, and recommendations for buying gifts. As I was getting ready to type it all out though, I started REALLY thinking about Mom's Day from a "mom perspective." I paused and pondered for a moment. Just what did I REALLY want to receive on Sunday as a gift from my children? The truth is, that nothing would ever mean more to me than simple written words. Words straight from my kids' hearts and transferred onto paper. Hopefully, some of the content would be about the tiny corner of their heart that perhaps I occupy; or maybe about how they feel about me and how our lives are (and have been) shared.
I have been a lucky mom in the past, in regards to this wish. I have a boxful of beautiful crayon-colored cards that my three lovelies have given me over the years. As they have grown into the young adults they are (and are becoming), the letters and notes have progressively become more involved and thoughtful. It's an amazing journey to observe and even more incredible to be in the midst of. Some days it really hits me how quickly they are growing up and how necessary it is to pause, breathe, smile, and enjoy their presence and company while I can.
Being with them, sharing time, reading their words: this truly is the MOST IDEAL gift that I could imagine.
Even if you have bought your mom a special present, wrapped in gorgeous paper and topped with a shiny bow - pull out a piece of paper and write her something. Write from your heart. Let her know about special times that you remember. Tell her how influential she has been in shaping the person you have become. Express to her why she is important and why you love her. I can assure you that it will mean more to her than ANYTHING you could ever shop for. Do it! Be reflective, be kind, be thoughtful for your mom.
