Word of the Day: June 2, 2009 - opinion
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 9:12AM opinion (uh-pin-yuh
n) - noun
An opinion is "a belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof."
First used in the written form around 1250–1300. Opinion comes via Old French from the Latin word opīniō, a derivative of opinārī , meaning "think." It is not certain where this came from, although some have linked it with the Latin optāre, meaning "choose," the source of the English adopt, opt, and option.
